District Awards

This page gives an overview of the District 72, Club and Individual Awards, and International Awards.

Being a Toastmaster comes with numerous advantages, rewards and official recognitions.

District 72 maintains several awards which can be awarded to Clubs, individual Toastmasters or members of the public to recognise and celebrate exceptional achievement or remarkable service.

The Alf Baker Cup is awarded at the November Convention by the Program Quality Director to the Club that has produced the best Club bulletin or newsletter in the previous Toastmasters year.

ANZAC Trophy

The Anzac Trophy is presented at the November Convention by the current District Director to the Immediate Past District Governor/Director for service as a District Governor/Director.

Bryan Buchanan Cup

The Bryan Buchanan Cup is presented to the winner of the District International Speech Contest at the May Convention.

Dale Hartle Award

The Dale Hartle Award for Best Toastmasters New Zealand Club Website is presented by the Public Relations Manager at the May Convention to the Toastmasters Club which has produced the best Club website. The award is judged by the Public Relations Manager and the District Webmaster.  Clubs must self-nominate to enter the award.

Dan Coomey Shield

The Dan Coomey Shield for Convention Attendance is presented by the Club Growth Director to the Toastmasters Club which has the most members attending a District Convention. This is calculated with a formula counting the members per Club present during a District Convention, the Club membership base and the distance between the Club's home base and the Convention location.

District 72 Citations

The District 72 Citations are presented at the May Convention to deserving members to acknowledge outstanding Toastmasters who have made contributions to their clubs/divisions and the district, as well as the organisation, usually over several years.

District 72 Retention and Membership Award

This award is presented at the November Convention by the Immediate Past District Governor/Director to the Division which excelled in both membership growth and membership retention during the preceding Toastmasters year.

Don Harden Memorial Trophy

The Don Harden Memorial Trophy for Professionalism in District 72 is presented at the November Convention by the Immediate Past District Director/Governor to a Toastmaster for the most outstanding contribution to professionalism in the previous Toastmasters year.

Doris Moore Memorial Award

The Doris Moore Memorial Award was presented at each convention to the Toastmaster present at that Convention who has the longest (uninterrupted) membership.  This award has now been retired.

Jack Duffy Memorial Rose Bowl

The Jack Duffy Memorial Rose Bowl is presented at the November Convention by the Program Quality Director to a club for community service through for example, the presentation of Speechcraft and Youth Leadership Programmes, and for raising the profile of Toastmasters in their community.

The John Fauvel Cup is presented at the November Convention to the winner of the District Table Topics Contest.

The Len Jury Award is presented at the November Convention to the Area Director/Governor of the Year.

Long Service Awards

The District 72 Long Service Awards are presented at each Convention by the Club Growth Director to District 72 Toastmasters who have achieved 25 years of cumulative membership with Toastmasters International.

Maurice Heyes Cup

The Maurice Heyes Cup is presented by the Program Quality Director to the contestant in the District International Speech Contest who delivered the most entertaining speech at the May Convention.

Presidential Citations

A Presidential Citation is a Toastmasters International recognition for outstanding contributions to Toastmasters, not necessarily limited to the District.

The Ray Morse Cup is awarded to the winner of the District Humorous Speech Contest at the November Convention.

The Rob Henry Trophy is presented to the winner of the District Evaluation Contest at the May Convention.

Terry Bellamy Award

The Terry Bellamy Award is presented at the November Convention by the Immediate Past District Governor/Director to the Outstanding Division Director/Governor of the Year.

Toastmaster of the Year

The District 72 Toastmaster of the Year Award is presented at the November Convention to a District 72 Toastmaster who has demonstrated exemplary understanding of the Toastmasters values and made outstanding contributions to Toastmasters in District 72 in the preceding year. Nominations are accepted from any Toastmaster.
