As we turn the page in our book and begin to write the next chapter in our journey of life, we welcome 2009.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! I do hope you celebrated the dawning of 2009. Some of you may have managed to welcome the New Year and others may have decided that sleep tended to be the better option. Whatever the option, I trust you were with friends and family and NOT sat at home on your own.
So what does 2009 bring for you? For District 72, it is time to recap on our goals and what direction we need to go as a whole in order to achieve these goals which are...
- That every toastmaster member sponsors another person into this wonderful organisation.
- That every Toastmaster achieves an award – if you have already completed an award, CONGRATULATIONS - why not achieve another award prior to 30 June 2009.
- That each Division charter two new clubs by 30 June 2009. We already have 6 new clubs thus far, but our target is 14 new clubs so if you are part of a team that has a club in formation – gather up the team, set the charter date and rein in the new members to achieve the charter status required of 20 plus members.
- That all clubs have their entire club executive trained (remember there is seven in the club executive) – better still encourage people who intend taking on a leadership role in your club in the next toastmaster year to also attend club leadership training.
So what are your personal goals whether it is toastmaster related or not?
With the economic climate proving challenging, perhaps you are one of those people who have been awarded the "redundancy portfolio". Like me we have to dust off our Curriculum Vitae and update it. Do put in all those profile skills that you have gained by being a member of Toastmasters such as...
- Communication
- Listening
- Time management
- Self esteem
- Confidence
- Meeting procedure
- ‘can-do’ attitude
These are just a few of the profile skills we gain. Ensure that you mention Toastmasters in your Curriculum Vitae along with all the club positions or other leadership roles you have held or presently hold.
Maybe your goals include up-skilling in order to attain that ideal job. Many of the advanced manuals that the Toastmaster program offers can assist you in up-skilling.
Now is the time to revisit your marketing plan in your club, area and division. Revamp those notices, have them ready to put into the local papers under educational section NOW – sell the benefits of Toastmasters – the leadership and communication skills that can be gained. People will be considering their educational options NOW!
Ensure all the contact details are current. If you have a website – update it for the New Year 2009 – incorporate current success stories of individuals who have benefited from belonging to such an amazing organisation as Toastmasters.
So come along everyone – let us refocus – set our goals – motivate people to join our worthwhile organisation – sell the benefits. LET’S GO FOR GOLD!

In response to the increasing issue of bogus form submissions from the online forms on this website, all forms now have an authentication process built in. When you submit a form you will see a flashing set of green letters which you must type correctly before the form will be submitted. If you get it wrong, you will lose your data and have to retype it.
