I joined Toastmasters in April 1994 in Hamilton.   The excellent grounding that I received from Dinsdale Toastmaster members certainly gave me the confidence to take the opportunity to be part of the District Team.   I have held most Club positions, have been an Area Governor for D6 and D4 (Select Distinguished), Division D Governor (President's Distinguished), TLI Officer, District Secretary and have been a sponsor/mentor for several new clubs.

I am currently a member of Achieve (currently President) and Corkers (currently VP Education) Toastmaster Clubs and a sponsor and charter member for the newly chartered City Lunchtime Toastmaster Club which are all in Tauranga.

I take great pleasure in seeing people join toastmasters very nervous entering a journey of the unknown and along the way develop confidence and gain skills they never thought possible.  I believe in allowing individuals to express their own ideas and utilise them in the club and mentoring them through the highs and lows that come their way as they progress through the Toastmaster program.

In between Toastmasters, working full time and visiting the gym on a regular basis, Frank (the man of the house) and I enjoy spending time with our two lovely grand-daughters Emma (2) and Paige (4 months).  We are also grand-parents to a grandson (Jack) now nearly 3 months old who lives in Sydney, Australia.

I have been a Toastmaster for 13 years and now enjoy the challenge and rewards of the leadership track. I especially take pleasure in meeting people and watching our members grow with the Toastmasters programmes. I am very proud to have been part of the team that made Division G Presidents Distinguished in 2005 while being its first Division Governor.

I am a Fiance, a Father, a Marriage Celebrant and an Electrical Service Technician, an Inspirational and Motivational Speaker and the bloke who puts the rubbish out.

Often, if I have any time left, you will find me enjoying photography, swimming, reading, watching rugby and renovating (well, I do NOT really enjoying renovating). I also love to walk with my fiance, Dianna, and our Jack Russell, Jasmine, along the beaches of Christchurch and Sumner.

I walked into my first Toastmasters meeting in November 1993, and by February the next year I found out how to join. I have held most of the positions on the club executive, and been club Toastmaster of the Year 12 times, Area Toastmaster 10 times, and Division Toastmaster 3 times.

In 1997 I was a Select Distinguished Area Governor, the year the District was President's Distinguished.

In 1999 I completed my DTM, (signed by Daley and McCann), and was TLI co-ordinator, that year led to me receiving the District Toastmaster of the Year award. In 2000 I was a Select Distinguished Division Governor.

In 2001 I won the Humorous Speech Contest at the District Level, then in 2005 I won the Evaluation Contest at the District Level. Very shortly afterwards I was convinced to be Division Governor again, where the efforts of my Team and Divison allowed me to be President's Distinguished, and to receive the Division Governor of the Year award.

In whatever spare time I have, I indulge in photography, mostly of motorsport, and photo-editing, normally removing tourists from my holiday snaps.

I first visited Hutt Valley Toastmasters Club, Lower Hutt in July 1983 and have been going ever since, which meets weekly on Mondays.  I have held various Committee roles, including President x3.  I have been Club Toastmaster of the Year a number of times, and Division E Toastmaster of the Year.

Last year we celebrated the club’s 40th anniversary having chartered on 10 July 1967 – note the date decimal currency day.  Hutt Valley was the 13th club in New Zealand.  Our Charter Secretary and Past Presidents were along to celebrate with 80 - members, past members and guests.  I achieved my DTM award in January 2001.

I have been a "Select Area Governor" twice 1996/97, 1997/98; covering the Hutt Valley and the Wairarapa followed by TLI co-ordinator Lower North Island 1998/99 & 1999/1990.

2002/03 I achieved Presidents Distinguished Division Governor (E), and awarded Division Governor of the Year.  In November 2007 District 72 awarded me a Long Service Award "For his continued and outstanding contribution and commitment to Toastmasters".

Carol and I recently became grandparents.  Interests outside Toastmasters include tramping, Scottish country dancing, and music.

I've been a Toastmaster since 2002 when I joined the Nelson club.  I have had the opportunity to serve on most of the executive positions in the club and to help rebuild the club from a low point when there were only four active members.  I've also served as a mentor for the High Noon Nelson club which chartered in 2006 and am a keen supporter of the Motueka Toastmasters Club.  As Area G5 Governor for the 2007/8 year I was part of a team that saw the area achieve select Distinguished status.

I believe that Toastmasters is a wonderful organisation. It changes people's lives for the better and develops communication and leadership skills in a world that badly needs them.  As district public relations officer I'm keen to get this message out to as wide an audience as possible. I'm also keen to provide support for club public relations officers and encourage them to contact me if I can assist them in any way.

Personal goals for the coming year include completing a DTM, attempting a karate grading and spending more time tramping with Hella.  In my spare time I work as a scientist.

I went to my first Toastmasters meeting in November 2000 after receiving an email which circulated at work. The subject line read 'Does public speaking scare you? – Come to Toastmasters'. Little did the sender know, public speaking was a fear I had battled with for years. Just reading the email terrified me! I used to call it 'My Screaming Fear'.

Had it not been for the very friendly, supportive and encouraging club members at that first meeting, I probably would have taken flight and never returned. For me Toastmasters has been a life changing and very rewarding experience. I achieved CTM in 2002

I have held most club executive roles, been a Mentor for two clubs. I have also been fortunate to receive Club Toastmaster of the Year twice, Division E Toastmaster of the year in 2001-2002, and Select Distinguished Area Governor in 2005/2006.

I belong to two clubs my home club High Noon Bankers (in central city Wellington) and Victoria University Toastmasters. I achieved DTM in 2006.

I see Toastmasters as a source of continual learning and very much look forward to contributing to and working with the District team this year.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family, love music, and an avid rugby supporter.

I joined Varsity Toastmasters in September 2004, and managed to "volunteer" myself to be the VP Education. My learning curve that started then is still continuing with each new Leadership role that I take on. I am currently a member of two clubs Varsity Toastmasters and Auckland Club. The cultures of these clubs are at opposite ends and I enjoy both of them immensely, and learn so much from each club.

My highlights while my brief time at Toastmasters include:

  • supporting the 2005 NZ Champion (Jasvir Nagra) at the International Convention in Toronto
  • my year as Area Governor from 2006-2007 where I achieved Select Distinguished Area
  • achieving my CTM and CL awards

I joined Gore Toastmasters in 1988, intending when I started to complete the CTM manual and then take it easy. However I developed a strong interest in competition speaking at an early stage, and after a series of third placings at various levels I was determined to win a District competition. It only took fourteen years and over a hundred competitions, but eventually I won the District Humorous Contest in 2002.

Since then I have become more focussed on leadership and training. I was Area C2 Governor in 2005-06, and Division C TLI Officer 2006-08. I have remained as TLI support this year maintaining the District Officers Toolkit CD.

Having recently completed my DTM, I have now discovered how much there is still to be gained from the Toastmasters advanced educational program.

I have been a member of Dinsdale Toastmasters Club since 1994, and received my first Competent Toastmasters Award in 1995. Since then I have completed 4 C.T.Ms, 2 A.T.M-Bs, 2 A.T.M-Ss, and 1 A.T.M.-G.  Gained numerous C.Ls but never completed my A.L. Why not? The Rebuild or start a New Club clause has eluded me, not for the want of trying and trying!!!!!!

Along the way I have been at different times and concurrently a Member of 'First Impressions' Club (a morning Club in Hamilton) and a member of 'Lower Waikato' in Taupiri, and a Mentor/Charter Member for 'Wired for Sound' Club also a Hamilton Club. I have served as Club President (3 times), V.P.Ed (2 times), V.P.P.R, and Sec/Tres. for Dinsdale Club, also President (2times), V.P.Ed, and Sec/Tres, for Lower Waikato and as V.P.Ed. for First Impressions. I was Waikato T.L.I. Officer 2003-04, and have held the Office of Area Governor for Area D6 three times.

Many of you will remember me as the Convener/Chairperson of Hamilton's May 2007 'Savour the Experience'  Toastmaster Convention. John Reimers was District Governor and David Brooks our keynote speaker. A GREAT WEEKEND that all who attended enjoyed.

I look forward to serving as Division D Governor and having my friend Katrina Hudson (my tireless Treasurer from the Convention) working with us all in Division D as our Treasurer.

I joined Toastmasters in 1997 when I rejoined the paid workforce after 12 years at home with my children. I joined to help regain my self-confidence and get some much needed skills.

Like a lot of people I intended to do my CTM and then leave. Like others before me I found that Toastmasters offered so much more.

Two high lights for me were in 2007 gaining my DTM and running the November Convention.

I enjoy the learning and growth I get from Toastmasters and enjoy seeing this happen for others. Being Division Governor is enabling me to meet and support more Toastmasters and this continues to be a thrill.

I first joined Toastmasters because of a workplace incident.  Sorry - did I say incident?  I meant "one of those moments where you didn't realise how bad you were at an acceptance speech until other people made fun of you afterwards and you really wished that the hole in the ground would appear for you to jump into."

Over the few short years I've been a Toastmaster I feel I've achieved a personal growth greater than my previous twenty years.  I remember Geoff Trotter (Immediate Past District Governor) describing Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit.  It was then I realised what I had done - I had grown, probably more than those around me.

So, what have I done?  I've been a club member in Kaiapoi Toastmasters (a fantastic club!), VP Education, President, Area Governor and now Division Governor - but again, it feels like so many more years.  I also created www.ktm.org.nz , another labour of love.

Behind many successful Toastmaster is a better half; in this case it's my long-suffering wife Jacqui. My older daughter (four years old) knows that if I'm not at work then I'm at Toastmasters.

As I said, Toastmasters is a way of life for me. It's a love of life.
