District Governor Denis McCord DTM
The journey to the position of District Governor can be short or long; mine has been a long one; certainly not one I planned until more recently as I have taken many opportunities in achieving my short term goals and accepting challenges as my goal posts changed.
I first visited Hutt Valley Toastmasters Club, Lower Hutt which meets weekly on Mondays in July 1983 and have been a continuous member since. I have held various Committee positions, including President three times. Hutt Valley was the 13th club chartered in New Zealand and July 2010 is its 43rd anniversary. I have been Division E Toastmaster of the Year and Club Toastmaster of the Year a number of times. I am also a member of Petone Toastmasters Club and Advanced Wellington Toastmasters Club; co-sponsor/charter member of both.
I have been a "Select Area Governor" twice 1996/97, 1997/98; covering the Hutt Valley and the Wairarapa followed by TLI co-ordinator Lower North Island 1998/99 and 1999/2000.
In 2002/03 I achieved Presidents Distinguished Division Governor (E), and was awarded Division Governor of the Year. In November 2007 I was awarded by District 72 a Long Service Award "For his continued and outstanding contribution and commitment to Toastmasters".
In 2008/2009 I was Lt Governor Marketing, an interesting year, recognised by receiving the Excellence in Marketing Award at the International Convention in Mashantucket, Connecticut, USA.
Last year, 2009/2010 I was Lt Governor Education and Training and enjoyed this position overseeing education and training and during this time meet many members throughout District 72.
Interests outside Toastmasters includes: family, tramping - I have done many trips throughout New Zealand; Scottish Country Dancing and music.
The Toastmasters Education programme offers many opportunities in communication and leadership to members and prospective members and over the years I have seen many members benefiting from the programme.
I look forward to serving District 72 as your District Governor.

I joined Toastmasters in 1996 to get over a fear of public speaking and a few months later I found myself even further outside of my comfort zone as the Charter President of Turbine Talkers Toastmasters. Being the Charter President was one of the best things that could have happened to me as it gave me the opportunity to not only grow as a communicator but also set me on a leadership path.
This leadership path lead me to being a Select Distinguished Area Governor in 2000-2001, Presidents Distinguished Area Governor 2003-2004, Presidents Distinguished Division Governor 2004-2005 and also received both the 'Division Governor of the Year' award and my DTM in that year. I have now embarked on a new level of leadership as LGM.
I have started both community and corporate clubs and assisted others through support and mentoring to also start new clubs, I have also actively helped a number struggling clubs to get back on their feet again.
I am again the President of Turbine Talkers and a member of the Newlands, WOW and Wellington Advanced clubs.
Toastmasters gave me the confidence to go to university and after 4 years of part time study I graduated with an Masters in Business Administration from Victoria University of Wellington in 2008, and also in 2008 certified as a Master Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
Through study and Toastmasters I have had time for anything else but I do enjoy cooking and landscaping when I find the time. I also like to pursue a passion for coaching and mentoring people to become the best at whatever they want to be.

Alun Chisholm DTM
I walked into my first Toastmasters meeting in November 1993, and by February the next year I found out how to join. I have held most of the positions on the club executive, and been club Toastmaster of the Year 12 times, Area Toastmaster 10 times, and Division Toastmaster 3 times.
In 1997 I was a Select Distinguished Area Governor, the year the District was President's Distinguished.
In 1999 I completed my DTM, (signed by Daley and McCann), and was TLI co-ordinator, that year led to me receiving the District Toastmaster of the Year award. In 2000 I was a Select Distinguished Division Governor.
In 2001 I won the Humorous Speech Contest at the District Level, then in 2005 I won the Evaluation Contest at the District Level. Very shortly afterwards I was convinced to be Division Governor again, where the efforts of my Team and Divison allowed me to be President's Distinguished, and to receive the Division Governor of the Year award.
In whatever spare time I have, I indulge in photography, mostly of motorsport, and photo-editing, normally removing tourists from my holiday snaps.

On a cold, frosty morning in August 2004 I had my first toastmasters meeting at the Sunrise club and have been an early morning meeting lover ever since. Nothing beats toastmasters to kick your day off (except my wife, of course).
The following year I was VP Membership and the next President. As President I got on so well with my Area Governor we decided it would be fun to start a new club together. Being an ideas man I had all kinds of concepts but eventually the ACE club was born at the Casino. At ACE I have also been President and VP PR.
In early 2009 I demanded to be allowed to be Division G’s PRO as I had so many ideas I wanted to put forward and look where that lead to. Now I want to impose myself on the whole country.
I don’t have any spare time after I finish my Toastmasters obligations as it all belongs to my 2 year old daughter, she is my princess and I am her slave (and mummy is queen).

I joined Toastmasters in 2000 after visiting a club by invitation. Prior to being invited to a Toastmasters meeting, I had always wanted to have the confidence to speak to an audience but I didn’t know where or how to start. Discovering Toastmasters was a heaven-send, but I also discovered a huge fear of public speaking. The fear was so great that my brain constantly left my head each time I had to speak, and I was often left standing speechless. The supportive members of Central Park Toastmasters in Penrose, Auckland, rescued me and 10 years later my confidence is so strong - I cannot leave a meeting with speaking. The transformation surprised me too!! The supportive learning environment of the Toastmasters learning programme speaks for itself.
My current achievements include CC, ACB, CLs x 3 and HPL. My DTM is getting closer and the excitement is mounting.
I was a Select Distinguished Area Governor in 2005. I have held various committee roles including President, VP Education, VP Membership, Secretary, SAA.
My interests outside of Toastmasters include dancing, cooking, reading and spending time with my three beautiful grandchildren who bring me a constant stream of joy and love.

I joined Taieri Toastmasters in 2003, I Joined because I was a bit of a poet and wanted the confidence to be able to deliver my poetry , which was something that I would never have been able to do before joining Toastmasters.
I was voted the clubs Most Improved Toastmaster and also won The Taieri clubs Toastmaster of the year in 2004 and went on to win the Area C4 Toastmaster of the year which was a huge honour.
I have been a member of the Taieri Club Executive Committee for 7 years holding most of the post from Sgt at Arms through to President, I have achieved my ACG and CL and now I am working towards my DTM.
I am a little different to the other division governors this year because I have not been an Area governor which means an even bigger learning curve but toastmasters has given me the confidence and the skills to complete my role of Division Governor.
Division D Governor Glen Irving ACS CL
I had never heard of Toastmasters until my last year of university. I presented a particularly shocking report for my International Business Environment honours paper (too much material, no rehearsal, no experience). I knew I had to do something about my presentation skills but didn't know how.
A member of First Impressions Toastmasters in Hamilton ran a Table Topics session (1-minute impromptu speaking) during an AIESEC meeting at The University of Waikato. I knew then that Toastmasters was the answer so I joined in September 1993.
After some time overseas in Germany and China I returned to New Zealand and rejoined First Impressions in March 1996. I became President of the Club in July 1997, which was helpful as a new job that year meant I was actually in charge of someone else's work! The Club was Distinguished that year.
I was Select Distinguished Area Governor 2009-2010. Looking back I realise I should have become an Area Governor sooner, preferably immediately after my term as Club President. You grow so much taking on a leadership role in Toastmasters, and that growth is invaluable for your work, social and hobby activities.
Outside of Toastmasters I enjoy Ceroc dancing, and maintain an active interest in table-top roleplaying, playing a Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 campaign and running a Pathfinder RPG campaign.

My journey in Toastmasters started in 2004 when I joined Chartered Chatterers to gain confidence and improve my communication skills. At that stage I had no intention of going down the leadership track. In 2006/07 I was dropped into the Presidents role, my first Committee role, and led the Club to Presidents Distinguished. The following year I was Presidents Distinguished Area E2 Governor and Division E Toastmaster of the year. This was the start of my leadership journey. A journey I have thoroughly enjoyed and gained tremendously from.
In 2008/09 I was District 72 Treasurer and received the Don Harden Memorial Award for the Most Outstanding Contribution to the Professionalism of Toastmasters.
Over the last four years I have held the Committee roles of President, VP Education, VP Membership, Treasurer, and Sergeant of Arms in a number of Clubs. I now belong to seven Clubs and have just achieved my second DTM. I have co-sponsored new clubs, coached a struggling club and regularly co-facilitate speechcraft courses.
Having reaped the benefits of being involved in the Toastmasters Leadership Track, I want to pass these benefits on to others.

I first became aware of Toastmasters when a flyer appeared in the Office where I worked, advertising a Demonstration evening to attract people along, hoping to start a new Kaiapoi Toastmasters Club, and so I asked questions and gave thought to going along to that meeting. Meanwhile my son, who was getting married the next month, asked if I would make a speech at his Wedding, or would I like the MC to do it for me. I thought for a moment and then replied, "I will do it myself!" I did not want to look back one day and regret not making that speech.
I did make that speech, and all the praise I received from family and friends, inspired me to go along to the Toastmasters Demonstration meeting the next week.
I joined up at the meeting following the successful Demonstration meeting, and have not looked back. That was 8 years ago, and I was elected to be Treasurer on the first committee, and was first to receive the Toastmaster of the Year Trophy. I then went on to be VP Education, and then President. Kaiapoi achieved President's Distinguished Club in my year as President. The year 2007 saw me taking on the role of Area G6 Governor, and the same year, I was a mentor for the new Belfast Club, which we chartered in 13 weeks, it was exciting, so exciting that when the opportunity came up to become a sponsor for the new Hornby Club a couple of years later, I jumped at the chance.
I received my DTM earlier this year, an achievement I am very proud of, and now am looking forward to the year ahead as Division G Governor.
