On 27 June 2007 Capital Toastmasters celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Capital was chartered in June 1967 and we had a fantastic time marking the occasion. Rob Julian, who joined Capital in 1974, gave us an anniversary speech about his time in Capital club - including when only men were members, and it was difficult to see the speaker through the cigarette smoke! Margaret Nixon, who joined Capital in 1985, continued the story with another anniversary speech. She told us more about the club's history through the venues where Capital's meetings have been held. Both of these brilliant speeches reminded the audience of all the Toastmasters who had been a part of Capital Club, and made us feel lucky that we had two "giants" such as Margaret and Rob to look up to and be inspired by.
Following the meeting we had a shared supper, in which several members revealed previously unknown cooking talents. All in all it was an excellent night - a special thanks to Denis McCord and Ray Wolken for coming along to join in the fun!
