I recently attended the Charter Dinner of Doubtless Bay Toastmasters – the furthest north Toastmaster Club in New Zealand which is in Division F, Area 7.
The sponsors Connie Hassan DTM and Tony Hassan ACB, CL along with their team of helpers put on a splendid evening. The programme included a humorous speech presented by one of the charter members along with a round of table topics with a menu of varying subjects.
Guest Speaker was Ray Wolfe who is a New Zealand singing icon of the 60’s/70’s music scene who presented an entertaining speech. Ray lives in the area and has a daughter who is a charter member of Doubtless Bay Toastmasters. I, as District Governor, gave a PowerPoint presentation on the beginnings of Toastmasters through to what happens at an International Toastmaster Convention which led into the presentation of the Club Banner and Charter Certificate to the President of the Club, Peter Buisson.
The sponsors/mentors Connie and Tony Hassan were acknowledged for their generosity in time and energy in getting this club to charter strength followed by the presentation of the Charter Certificates by the District Governor ably assisted by Rose Oosthuysen – Area F7 Governor. There was the cutting of the cake as well.
All in all, it was a well organised evening with plenty of laughter and camaraderie amongst everyone who attended. May the club go from strength to strength and open many doors of opportunity for its members and future members.
