Kaitaia's On Top Toastmasters, the northernmost club in the country, celebrated the gaining of its charter on Saturday night the 28th of July with a dinner at the RSA. The Toastmaster for the night, Tony Hassan, welcomed guests to Kaitaia "Where the rain is wet and the wit is dry".

In attendance were senior members of the New Zealand District of Toastmasters International and members from Tauranga, Whangarei and Auckland. Chrissie Meyer, the Lieutenant Governor, Education and Training spoke to the gathering about previous Toastmasters International World Conferences.

Chrissy presented the President, Paul Andrew, with the club's bright gold and blue banner in recognition of the chartering of the club. Chrissie also gave certificates to members and awards to Connie and Tony Hassan for their role in establishing and mentoring the club.

Selwyn Pearson, the Division Governor praised the club for chartering after just two meetings.

New Zealand's candidate for the next World Champion of Public Speaking award, Northland's own Robin Grieve of the Whangarei club, gave two speeches which were very well received by the gathering of 32 members and guests.

A lively Table Topics session, where participants speak "off the cuff" for two minutes on a topic of the host's choosing kept the laughter flowing.

On Top Toastmasters meets at the REAP in Puckey Avenue every second and fourth Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 9:30pm. New members and guests are welcome.
