Statistics club charters

The Statistics NZ (Wellington) Toastmasters Club recently celebrated being 'chartered' (i.e. becoming an official part of Toastmasters International).  To celebrate this milestone, the club held a Charter Luncheon on 6 August, at Statistics House, Wellington.

Past District Governor, Joy Ackrill presented the club with its official banner and certificates. Joy also has links to the department as an ex-Statistics New Zealand staff member.

Statistics New Zealand sponsor Graham Baker, spoke of the support that the Statistics NZ managers have for the.Toastmasters' objectives have clear links to our own corporate aims of  communicating effectively and developing leadership skills.

Toastmasters sponsor Ray Wolken likened the club's success to date to "ABC" in 'conceiving' an idea, 'believing' in it and going on to 'action' - the formation of the group.

He had seen the first members and new members gaining confidence and enjoyment in public speaking in line with  the aim of Toastmasters.
