I had the fantastic opportunity and privilege to attend the charter dinner for our newest club the Takitimu Toastmasters Club at the Tuatapere Town and Country Club in Southland in November 2006. The theme for the dinner was the 25th Celebration of the Takitimu Club which made the evening a wonderful event as we cleverly time-warped between 2006 and 2031 – I could not decide if I was 45 years old or 70! Someone did comment that I looked good for 70 which I took as a compliment – I think?
The evening was chaired by Chris McIntosh who was instrumental in getting the club chartered. There was a spirited attitude of great enthusiasm from all the members as we enjoyed some very ingenious speeches, skits and Tabletopics. Much praise went to the sponsors and mentors, Raewyn Hunt, Leanne Fox and Selwyn Steedman for their splendid efforts as well as the support from the Foveaux Toastmasters Club. However the most popular of praise went to the members of the club who are the people who will benefit the most from their new club. A wonderful time was had by all during the evening and it was a splendid start to their club’s life.
I look forward to attending the real 25th Anniversary of the Club! On behalf of all District 72 Toastmasters, I would like to congratulate president Paul Marshall and all the “Taki Toasties” for becoming part of the International family of Toastmasters.
