On Thursday 23rd March 2006 the Wellington Toastmasters Club, the oldest club in the Wellington region, threw a party in the Great Hall at Parliament to celebrate 40 years of operation.  For those who still don't know, Toastmasters in the Wellington region all began with just this one club in 1966 and has since grown to around 40 clubs today.

There were over 70 guests present at the function: current and former members of the Wellington club itself, current and former members of other Wellington clubs, and family and friends.  Everyone present seemed to have a great time and so they should have.  The event was hosted by Hon. Annette King, the Minister of Police, herself a former Wellington Toastmasters Club toastmaster.

As well as delicious food and ample drink, the evening featured humorous and informative speeches by both Annette herself and by one of New Zealand's most distinguished toastmasters, Colin Perfect (not only a former District Governor but also presently a candidate for the post of International Director from Districts Not Assigned to Regions - visit Colin's website).

In addition, the evening was marked by presentations to the four founder members present, as well as a presentation to Geoff Moss.  Geoff is currently the Area E1 Governor.  He came as a visitor to the club's first official meeting 40 years ago, joined the club very soon thereafter, and has remained a stalwart member of the club ever since.  During this time he has forged a highly successful career as an international management trainer.

Most of all, of course, the evening was a chance to socialise and enjoy great company.  Yes, it was a very enjoyable evening all round.
