31 August 2008
Our Toastmasters year has well and truly begun with many club officers attending training and clubs underway with the first round of contests.
The Division Team is keen to support the Division clubs and members. The team is:
Division Governor Judy Love Area E1 - David Coxon Area E2 - Andrea Houlihan Area E3 - Robyn Smeaton Area E4 - Sarah Talboys Area E5 - Margaret Hannan Area E6 - Jaishri Suresh Area E7 - Antony Zogg Area E8 - Rita Stirling Area E9 - Ann Hayman Division Treasurer - Jan Hart Division PR - Mike Nordon
I noticed at the club officer training that many club officers are fairly new to Toastmasters; the Area Governors are there to help and advise clubs, so don’t be shy about contacting them.
New Clubs
It is with the greatest pleasure I welcome three new clubs to our Division: Wainuiomata, Statistics NZ and Postmasters.

Speech Marathon
The Gourmet club is having a speech marathon on 18th September. This is not only an opportunity to get another speech done, but to be evaluated by some of the most experienced Toastmasters in Division E, and to step outside your comfort zone by speaking at another club. Contact clarkas@xtra.co.nz
Division Conference
Put 11th October in your dairies now!
The Division Conference will be held at The Street Church, Hania Street, Mount Victoria.
The division conference gives you the opportunity to hear the best speakers from Wellington, the Hutt, Wairarapa and Kapiti. Our Division has a fine tradition of quality speakers. Last year in the district contests we placed – Table Topics 1st Dominic Philips, Humorous 3rd David Crisp, Evaluation 3rd Neil MacInnes and International 1st Sanjiv Jetley.
At the conference we will hear from Sanjiv about his experiences as a contestant at the International Conference in Calgary and from Joy Ackrill who was awarded a Presidential Citation in Calgary.
Registration forms are on the Toastmasters New Zealand Website under Events - Division Conferences.
If you are bringing a car to the conference remember that you can bring at least 3 others in your car. Open the Door of Opportunity for someone else in your club.
This year I want to see record numbers of people at the conference. I challenge your club to have the biggest turn out!
Club websites
In our on-line society today the Toastmasters website is where many prospective members come. It is important that your club details are correct.
- The Club's email address is redirected to the appropriate people. There should be 3 people nominated in your club for mail to be redirected to. This ensures the club gets all Division information and prospective members find you.
- Every club should have a club website and this should be available on Club Finder, including corporate clubs. The details prospective members are looking for are the dates of meetings, cost and what's in it for them.
Don’t loose a prospective member because they can't contact you.
To update your details on the NZ website is under online forms linked from the home page.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Division E Conference.
