January 2009
Greetings everyone.
Well, it’s been fairly quiet over the holiday period, which means there is nothing much to report, but a lot to be challenged about. For example look at the list of coming events.
COMING EVENTS
Friday 13th Feb. As Craig Robinson said in a recent message "unlucky for some." Despite this however, they are holding club leadership training for the Hastings and Napier clubs in Hastings
B1 and B2 are also holding their club leadership training on this night.
Friday 20th. Club leadership training for B3 and B5 being held in Palmerston North. Venue to be announced.
Saturday 14th March. Area B4 council day being held in Napier.
Saturday 21st March Area B3 and B5 speech contests being held in Palmerston North
Saturday 4th April. Division B contest being held at Wanganui (Whanganui). Venue to be announced.
It is also proposed to hold a demonstration meeting at New Plymouth during March.
To date the division has achieved 28 CC’s and 8 AC’s. The challenge for us in Division B is to treble our efforts in all aspects of club life within the next 6 months and show the rest of the country, and ourselves, that it can be done.
ARE YOU READY?
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. Ralph Waldo Emerson
And we need to become an enthusiastic people. We need to reach out. We need to be prepared to demonstrate that we belong to an organisation that holds the key to personal development. Let us show that the secret that is Toastmasters is a secret no longer. And how are we going to achieve that?
By making Toastmasters week a week to remember and by keeping the impetus going for the rest of the year. Take time to do something special. Hold a sausage sizzle and hand out leaflets that explain all about Toastmasters with the free sausages. Arrange a radio interview. Advertise in shop windows and malls. Hold demonstration meetings in places that are easily accessible to the general public e.g., shopping mall. Whatever you do, remember to go all out for Toastmasters during Toastmasters week. Now is the time to start planning. It’s only a month away. And remember,
"We just can’t do everything by ourselves and on our own. Even the most skilled jugglers have a limit to the number of balls they can keep in motion. But we can add another pair of hands and geometrically stretch our capacity."
Toastmasters is not just about individuals, it’s about being a part of a team. So why not see what your team can accomplish during the next 6 months.

TOASTMASTER OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!
I would also like to give a big thank you to David Gore and Steve Tutbury for their timely, well written Newsletters, and to all my area governors, TLI’s and clubs for all that has accomplished so far, but as we look ahead to 2009 we need to start thinking about how we can make this division even better. This is my challenge to you. Something for you to think about
A. Advance. What strategies are you planning for growth?
R. Retain. There is a decline in the number of members. What can be done to stem the flow?
E. Educate and expand. Have you given your clubs a vision for the future? Do you have adequate training programmes in place?
A Administrate. Are you in control? Do your clubs know that you are in control, or do they see you as a shadowy figure sitting in the background somewhere out there? Have you notified Toastmasters either at district or international level of any changes in club leadership?
Hopefully, we will be looking at some of these issues early in the new year. Last year I had the pleasure of visiting Hastings, New Plymouth and Naumai. During the coming 6 months I hope (depending on the money situation), I would like to visit two or three other clubs as well.
I would just like to close by once again thanking my area governors and TLI's for their wonderful support. You make a magnificent team.
Margaret and I wish you all safe driving and a Merry Christmas!
