Young Speakers Inc. is a not-for-profit Society set up to provide actual, applied, leadership and communications skills, learnt and experienced by standing in front of a 'live' audience, in a very similar manner to Toastmasters. Young Speakers Inc. has been set up by two people who have been in the public speaking game for a long time, in a not-for-profit role, Kevin Warwood and Claire Read.
The reason Young Speakers has been set up is to satisfy a growing need for similar services to Toastmasters, for people under the age of 18. The programme is based on an interactive curriculum, similar to Toastmasters. These assignments are a mixture of speaking and leading tasks.
The leadership programme gives the students an opportunity to lead the organisation by taking on an 'Area' role and being on the Board of Directors.
What's next? We believe we have a great product/service to provide applied young adult leadership and communication skills training.
Please contact us so we can talk you through the programme. Phone Kevin Warwood (09) 299 7005.

Glynis de Castro ATMB and Alan Hamilton ATMG have just facilitated another amazing Toastmasters Youth Leadership Course at Newlands College, Wellington. The College has been a welcome leader in having hosted and supported these youth development courses for many years.
The final session of the latest course was held on Sunday 16 May 2005. I was invited to attend. The hall was packed with parents, other family members and Toastmasters.
The entire event was conducted by the participants ably chaired by Jessica Wiel, one of the course members.
Each of the talented group had the opportunity to tackle an impromptu speech topic in the 'Table Topics' session. Some of the guests also had the honour of contributing as well!!
After a marvellous supper, a fine series of prepared speeches was delivered and then evaluated by the group.
The session concluded with a presentation of achievement certificates by Glynis de Castro and myself.
A Youth Leadership Course is a fantastic way of developing the skills of school students as the Newlands College experience shows. The graduating students were so impressed with their own improvement on the course that they intend to keep on meeting on a fortnightly basis.
One of the key features found beneficial was the ability it gave the participants to deal with short notice speeches without feeling lost for words and in a manner that enabled them to organize their thoughts more clearly and logically.
