Nominations for 2012-2013 District Officers

Nominations for Leadership roles 2012-2013 Year

It is that time of the District year when we call for nominations to fill the leadership roles in the next District year, 2012-2013. 

This newsletter covers the organisation changes for the District year effective 1 July 2012, identifies which leadership roles are elected or appointed and where to find the nomination forms and the nomination process to be followed.  Also refers to a Report listing the Divisions and Areas/Clubs alignment for 2012-2012 and an Information Sheet for 2012-2013 Area Governors.

The Changes
We are introducing some changes to Divisions and Areas effective 1 July 2012.  These changes include the move from seven divisions to nine divisions and many changes to area names and alignment of clubs to areas.

Authority:  The District 72 Council Meeting held on 14 May 2011 approved the alignment of nine Divisions (from seven Divisions) effective 1 July 2012.  The District Council also approved in principle the alignment of clubs/areas. There may be some minor changes when this alignment is approved at the May 2012 District Council meeting.

The Divisions (approved) effective 1 July 2012 and the area/club alignments (approved in principle) effective 1 July 2012 are listed in a report titled "District 72 Divisions effective 1 July 2012".   The report includes a general description of the geographical area each division covers.

Nominations

District Governor, Lt Governor Education & Training, Lt Governor Marketing, Division Governors for Divisions: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and J.

These are elected positions and nominations received by a deadline are assessed by the District Nominating Committee.  The above leadership roles are filled by election held at the District 72 Council Annual Business meeting.  For the 2012-2013 year this is being held on Saturday 5 May 2012 in Dunedin.

The deadline for nominations from candidates to be considered by the District Nomination Committee is 21 February 2012.  Nominations are to be forwarded to me as Chairman of the District Nomination Committee.

For your information the Nominating Committee assesses the candidates and reports to the District Governor
The District Governor, Steve Bullock DTM will report to members of the District Council no later than 6 April, the list of successful candidates.

Area Governor
These will be appointed positions.  Candidates for the leadership role of all Area Governors will be confirmed by the District Governor (elect) at the District 72 Council Annual Business meeting. For the 2012-2013 year this is being held on Saturday 5 May 2012 in Dunedin.

Selection process:   The District Administration Bylaws provides for the selection of area governors either by appointment by the district governor or by election by area councils.   Toastmasters International in the Leadership Handbook recommends that district governors appoint area governors.  In previous years there has been a mixture of elected and appointed Area Governors.

As there are many changes from the 2011/2012 area/club alignments to the 2012/2013 area/club alignments the 2012-2013 Area Governors will be appointed by the District Governor (elect).  Current Area Councils should look for candidates for the Area Governor role.  Also refer to the "Area Governor 2012-2013 Information Sheet".

The deadline for nominations from candidates for the leadership role of an Area Governor is 31 March 2012. 
Nominations are to be forwarded to the District Governor, Steve Bullock DTM.

District Public Relations Officer, District Treasurer, District Secretary
These are appointed positions.  The above leadership roles will be confirmed by the District Governor (elect) at the District 72 Council Annual Business meeting on Saturday 5 May  in Dunedin.

All District Field Officers: including District Parliamentarian, District Supplies Officer, Toastmasters Leadership Institute Officers, District Webmaster:
These are appointed positions.  The above leadership roles will be confirmed by the District Governor (elect) at the District 72 Council Annual Business meeting on 5 May 2012 in Dunedin.

Forms to complete
Candidates for all the above roles are required to complete the nomination forms – nomination form, officer agreement and release form, and the information sheet.  These are all in one document.
