*** This email has been sent to all Toastmasters members in District 72 ***
Coronavirus is now impacting all aspects of our lives. This can be unsettling. As Toastmasters we have relied on each other for our growth, support and camaraderie in our in-person meetings. I realise that this is a difficult time for many members and clubs.
Online meetings can give us the opportunity to continue that growth, support and camaraderie. They give us the ability to chat and keep in touch with each other, and become more creative as we engage online together. They also provide us with a chance to expand our skill set and become even better communicators in the 21st century.
The District has several Zoom PRO accounts set up for our clubs to use. If your club wants to use one of these Zoom accounts then contact firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule your club meetings online.
Please also note that we are currently running webinars on"Running an Online Meeting". All members are welcome to attend. Feel free to join a session tonight, Friday 27 March 2020, from 8:00pm to 9:00pm, or tomorrow afternoon, Saturday 28 March 2020, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. The Zoom meeting number is 727-272-0000 or access via: https://zoom.us/j/7272720000
Some people may not want to join online meetings, and, given the current lock-down procedures in place in New Zealand at present, there is not much we can do in this context. Some people may be reluctant to pay their renewals. Toastmasters International has extended the renewals due date to 30 April 2020 as a response to COVID-19. Those people can continue to attend and will still be a member in good standing and have access to Pathways in this time of uncertainty until that date.
The most important part of Toastmasters is our members. We need to be there to support each other and the District is here to support the members and the clubs. If your club or members are in need of extra support please feel free to contact me.
Leadership Award Submission Extension
This is the news that we have been waiting for. Some members have been concerned about not being able to complete the final roles to complete year Distinguished Toastmaster award. Toastmasters International has made the following extensions:
Members may submit for their ALS or DTM award in the traditional program through June 30, 2021. Therefore, any work completed, such as a club sponsor/mentor role, from now through to the end of the next programme year can be used as credit toward the requirements for either of these two awards. Please note, no other awards in the traditional education program will be accepted beyond June 30, 2020.
The ALS award will not count for credit toward the education goals in the Distinguished Club Program for the 2020–2021 program year, but the DTM award, whether achieved through Pathways or the traditional education program, will count for credit.
The club coach provision will be extended through June 30, 2021. If a club coach's role is successfully completed on June 30, 2020 or June 30, 2021, that club coach can use that credit toward both the club support and the District leadership requirements for either an ALS or a DTM award in the traditional program or a DTM award in Pathways.
If you have any speeches that you need to do to complete a legacy/traditional award, you will need to do them this year. Join in with an online meeting to get you speeches done. If your club does not have the time for all of your speeches, maybe talk to another club. Let all of us work together to help each other.
Nominations Closing 31 March 2020
Please also note that nominations close for the following awards in the 2019/20 Toastmasters year at midnight on 31 March 2020:
District Citations- The District 72 Citations are presented to deserving members of our organization each year to acknowledge outstanding Toastmasters who have made contributions to their Club/s Division and District 72, as well as the organization, usually over several years. The number of District 72 Citations to be awarded each year are determined by the current trio having cognisance of this being a prestigious award to be sparingly given. Past recipients of this award are ineligible. Nominations may be made by past or present Club Presidents or District Officers and should be sent email@example.com
Jack Duffy Memorial Rosebowl for Community Service- awarded annually to a Club for outstanding contribution to the community and/or community activities raising the profile of Toastmasters in the previous 12 months (1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020). The District appreciates the work and effort that Club Officers and District Officers have been putting in during these unsettling times. The District is here to support all our members and our clubs. Please let me know if there is any way that the District can help and support you.
