Coronavirus / COVID-19 Announcement from District 72 - as at 15 March 2020

The situation regarding the Covid-19 virus is changing daily, nationally and worldwide. New Zealand has limited cases, and is aiming to "flatten the curve" with the Prime Minister's announcement yesterday regarding travel restrictions and self-isolation for incoming travelers. Please respect our community by following this directive if you are returning from overseas.

Toastmasters are monitoring the situation and following guidelines set out by the Ministry of Health. At this stage, we are continuing with Toastmasters' activities. However, this may be subject to change.

If you or a family member is unwell, please stay away from any Toastmasters meeting or event until you're completely well.

Additionally, if you or anyone in your family has been in contact with someone who has recently returned to NZ from an area that has Covid-19, it is requested you avoid Toastmasters' activities for 2 weeks to ensure no potential spread.

Listed below are basic hygiene measures that we should be following:

Regularly washing hands (for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap and dry thoroughly).
  • Sneezing and coughing into the crook of the elbow.
  • Stay home if you are feeling unwell
  • Avoiding close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.
  • If you feel unwell you should avoid public gatherings and events.

Members are reminded that if they are concerned they may have been exposed to or be displaying the symptoms of Coronavirus, they should contact Healthline on 0800 611 116 or a Health Professional.

With regards to the upcoming May District Conference in Christchurch from 8-10 May 2020, we are continuing planning towards this event occurring, business as usual.  We encourage all members to register for the conference and plan to enjoy an exciting event .  We will continue to monitor the situation and will, if the need arise, ensure there is two weeks notice of any cancellation.  Any registration fees (event and meal) will be refunded if this occurs.  We encourage you to ensure that, wherever possible, any personal travel or accommodation expenses are covered in the event of cancellation.
