Obituary - Richard Watson

Richard James Watson, DTM, former District Supplies Officer, amongst other roles!

Started 29 April 1939 – Conked Out 29. 02..2012

Richard Watson joined Whakatane Toastmasters in 1979, and over time served in various club officer roles including president. This was followed by a dual term as Area Governor in 1983 -1985.

In 1985 Richard accepted the role of World Headquarters Supplies Officer, a position he held until August 2011. There were many changes in supplies and packaging, from a kit that contained the manual, a folder, plus other educational material all packaged in a box that looked like a pizza box to the current supplies which now include 2 manuals in an envelope.
Richard took on the Form 400 Officer role in 2001 and held this role until new members could be signed on electronically making the Form 400 Officer role obsolete.

For 8 years until 2011 Richard was also District Supplies Officer.

Richard twice took on the role of Area Governor when the elected officers failed to complete their terms.

Richard achieved his Distinguished Toastmaster Award in October 1993 following the formation of Tasman Toastmasters, now Kawerau Toastmasters and was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding and Dedicated Service in 1988.

Richard was awarded a Presidential Citation in 1999.

Richard has been a member of Whakatane Toastmasters, Te Puke Toastmasters and Kawerau Toastmasters and at one time was a member of all 3.

Richard was presented with a Long Service Award in May 2011.
