Thinking about Going outside Toastmasters to Speak?
This page has a link to an e-book by Tom Ware on speaking outside Toastmasters.
Here is a book written by a Toastmaster for Toastmasters. Going Outside Toastmasters, subtitle: A Guide to Giving Effective Presentations Outside of the Toastmaster Environment, is the end result of nearly thirty years of speaking to audiences outside of Toastmasters.
Tom Ware, ATM-G, now 74, started his speaking career at Takapuna Club, in Auckland in May 1972. He remained with this club for around eighteen months before transferring his membership and moving back to Sydney.
In 1985, in order to obtain his ATM, he was obliged to give five presentations outside of Toastmasters. This was a mandatory requirement to pick up that award in those days. Tom enjoyed speaking outside Toastmasters so much that he went on to do sixty such presentations in the next two years. Other outside engagements followed from time to time. Retiring from paid employment in 1995, but still retaining his Toastmasters membership, Tom could now really get into speaking in a big way. Between April of that year and December 2010 he spoke to another 670 audiences and around 37,000 people.
For those Toastmasters who'd like to go outside the Toastmaster environment, and are wondering how to get there and what they will need to know, Going Outside Toastmasters is the book for you. This is not a long treatise on Public Speaking per se. This short, 20,000 word work deals specifically what will help you as a Toastmasters wishing to go outside. It is filled with hints and tips of what to do to make that transition the more pleasurable. Moreover, the contents page: What’s Inside, will quickly lead you to the sections you might want to quickly view.
This book is written with 'no strings attached' as far as the Toastmasters – or any reader for that matter – is concerned. It not subject to any copyright restrictions and is not with any publishing house. Please feel free to download it as an E-book or to refer or quote from it in any way. As I said at the outset, this is a book written by a Toastmaster for Toastmasters.
