Toastmasters International is a worldwide organisation. Administratively, it is divided into regions, then Districts, Divisions, Areas and Clubs.
This website is to assist the members of District 72, which covers the South Island and Lower North Island of New Zealand. We sit within Region 12, alongside Districts 17, 69, 70, 73, 90 and 112.
From 1 July 2026, District 72 will be uniting with District 112 to form one administrative district across New Zealand and Fiji.
Stay up to date with the latest news and events from across District 72. For ease of navigation, we have divided this page into four sections: Members, Club Officers, District Officers and the District Calendar. We recommend regularly checking the sections that apply to you!
Throughout the year, the District will organise a variety of training opportunities for members Club Officers and District Officers. This a great way to meet people from outside your club, share ideas and learn!
The two most important training events are Club Officer Training and District Officer Training.
Club Officer training is held at the beginning of the Toastmasters year (June to August) and halfway throughout the year (November to February). This involves attending one 3-4 hour session to learn about the role and how the wider Toastmasters organisation operates. Clubs that have 4 or more officers attend receive a point in the Distinguished Club Programme.
District Officer Training is held 2 – 3 time per year and is usually held over two days. This training covers a wider variety of topics and is designed around building leadership skills. It also looks at some of the more technical aspects of District Officer roles, like completing Club Visit Reports and running contests.
In addition to this, the District will often organise workshops that are open to all members!
Details about these events will be posted on this page.
District 72 is here to support Members, Club Officers and District Officers from across New Zealand. On this page, you will find a collection of resources relevant to various roles or activities.
District 72 has a long history spanning back to 1972. Over the years, a number of awards have been given out to recognise our high achievers and dedicated volunteers. This page has been set up to acknowledge those people.
The District holds two types of formal meetings throughout the year.
The first is the District Executive Meeting, which is attended by the Top Table, Division Directors and Area Directors. These are typically held every three months and are a place for District Officers to give reports, review the District finances and make operational decisions.
The second is the District Council Meeting, which is attended by the District Executive, Club Presidents and Club VP Educations. These are typically held in September and May. This meeting gives club leaders a platform to debate operational issues. It is also where District Officers are elected to their roles.
Reports and notices for these meetings will be posted on this page.
The District is led by dedicated volunteers. Information on how to contact our District leaders can be found on this page.
