Resources

District 72 is here to support Members, Club Officers and District Officers from across New Zealand.

In the pages below, you will find a collection of resources relevant to your role or activity.

You can also access these resources via our shared Google Drive (coming soon).

If you have created a resource or guide that would help other people, send us a message at d72@toastmasters.org.nz. We would love to add it to our collection!

Club Officers

Being a Club Officer is one of the most rewarding aspects of Toastmasters. It is an opportunity to directly influence the experience that people have when they visit your club. It is also the first step in learning about the wider Toastmasters organisation.

There are seven Club Officer roles – President, VP Education, VP Membership, VP Public Relations, Secretary, Treasurer and Sergeant at Arms. It is also common that the Immediate Past President joins the Club Committee to provide experience and guidance.

On this page, you will find tools and resources to help you on your journey.

District Officers

Being a District Officer is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of this organisation. You are the critical link between clubs and Toastmasters International.

There are a number of important District Officer roles that keep the organisation moving. The first step for most people is Area Director, which involves overseeing a small group of clubs. The people in this role will be supported by a Division Director, who cover a wider geographic area.

There are also “Top Table” roles, which tend to oversee a particular aspect of District operations. These roles include Parliamentarian, Admin Manager, Finance Manager, Public Relations Manager, Club Growth Director and Program Quality Director.

Finally, the District is led by a District Director. This is the captain of the ship and is sometimes the final decision maker on operational issues. Once their term has finished, this person will usually stay for one more year as Immediate Past District Director to provide experience and guidance to the new team.

On this page, you will also find tools and resources to help you as a District Officer.

Contests

During the Toastmasters Year, the District is allowed to run up to four contests – with one being the International Speech Contest. We currently also run the Humorous Speech Contest, Table Topics Contest and Evaluation Contest.

Each contest starts at the Club level and then progresses through to Area, Division and finally the District. Only the International Speech Contest progresses beyond District level.

On this page, you will find a variety of tools and resources for organising a contest.

Pathways

Pathways is the official educational program of Toastmasters International. It is designed to help members develop communication and leadership skills by completing projects and challenges. Based entirely online, participants can select a personalised learning path that aligns with their individual goals.

Members are automatically enrolled in Pathways when they join Toastmasters. After selecting your path, you can progress through the five levels and earn certificates. The program is flexible and self-paced, with most members completing their first path within 1 – 2 years.

Elections

Every year, the District Council holds an election to fill certain District Officer roles. This is usually done during the District Council Meeting in May.

Elected roles include Division Director, Club Growth Director, Program Quality Director and District Director.

Information about how to apply for elected roles and how to vote for candidates will be posted on this page.

Past Conferences

Every year, the District holds a conference. This is usually held over three days and is a place where members can connect with like-minded people, learn from keynote speakers and celebrate the finals of the District contests. These are always fun and memorable events!

Where possible, we will try to keep photos and records from these events on this page.

Videos

Throughout the year, the District will hold a number of training events and workshops. Where possible, we will post recordings to this page so that people can watch the event afterwards.
